ChronoShift on video

How the time machine works – and what happens when you use it.

In the video the mod is called “Chronos”, on CurseForge “Chronos Time Travel”. Playing the video loads it from YouTube. More videos on my YouTube channel.

What ChronoShift can do

The mod doesn't copy your world – it records what changed, so a point in time costs kilobytes instead of gigabytes.

Walk-in time machine

Not a block with a button, but a whole room. Everything standing in the machine room travels along – animals, items, minecarts and other players.

Your own past

Blocks you mined are back, later builds are missing. Players in the present notice nothing – the present always stays untouched.

Timelines that last

Return whenever you like and find everything you built there. Give timelines your own names and keep up to five for good.

Save your pets

When a tamed animal dies, its moment of death is saved instantly. Travel there, lead it into the machine room and bring it back.

Travel together

Pick the same point in time and you land in the same past, where you can build together – on servers too.

Relocate

The machine can also jump to other coordinates in the present – together with everything in its room.

Building the time machine

A cube of 5×5×5 blocks

Inside, a walkable room of 3×3×3 stays open. The game shows you the full build guide with all five layers: type /chronoshift anleitung in chat – no cheats needed.

Place the core first, standing where the room is meant to be. If everything is right, the core glows green. If not, click it – it lists every problem with coordinates.

Blueprint

  • Shell: quartz blocks
  • Four corner pillars: copper blocks – any oxidation stage works
  • Floor: a lava tank in the middle, four chronal conduits around it diagonally
  • Ceiling, centre: a temporal stabilizer
  • Wall at head height: the time machine core (the control panel)
  • Back wall: a two-block-high opening as the entrance, with or without a door

Recipes

Chronal Conduit

3 pieces

4 Amethyst Shards (corners) + 4 Copper Ingots (edges) + 1 Redstone (centre)

Temporal Stabilizer

1 Ender Pearl (centre) + 3 Amethyst Shards around it + 3 Nether Quartz as the base

Time Machine Core

2 Diamonds (top) + 4 Chronal Conduits + 1 Temporal Stabilizer (centre)

Lava Tank

2 Copper Ingots + 2 Glass + 1 Bucket (centre)

Every recipe shows up in the recipe book as soon as you hold a matching ingredient for the first time. A complete machine costs about 18 Amethyst Shards, 14 Copper Ingots, 6 Nether Quartz, 2 Ender Pearls, 2 Diamonds, 2 Glass and 1 Bucket – plus 77 quartz blocks and 12 copper blocks for the shell. A real end-game project.

Fuel: lava

Right-click the tank in the floor with a lava bucket – it holds up to three buckets. Every trip costs one, coming back from the past is free. Start with an empty tank and the machine explodes – the interface warns you clearly first.

How to travel through time

  1. Right-click the core to open the time selection.
  2. Pick a point in time: the machine charges briefly and you arrive.
  3. Going back: right-click a complete time machine in the past. You travel home in the machine you click.

Good to know: points in time are created automatically every 30 minutes of play. Right after installing there is nothing to visit yet – the mod has to run for a while first. Stuck in the past? /chronoshift dim leave takes you back.

Install in 4 steps

  1. Install Fabric Loader: Download the Fabric Installer, choose “Client” and Minecraft 1.21.1, then click “Install”. It has to be Loader 0.19.3 or newer.
  2. Download Fabric API: Get Fabric API for 1.21.1.
  3. Put the files in your mods folder: Copy the ChronoShift file and Fabric API into the mods folder. Create the folder if it doesn't exist.
    Windows: %appdata%\.minecraft\mods
    macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/mods
    Linux: ~/.minecraft/mods
  4. Start Minecraft: In the Minecraft Launcher, pick the “fabric-loader-1.21.1” profile and click “Play”.

On a server: ChronoShift and Fabric API go into the server's mods folder and to every player – without the mod the game doesn't know the new blocks.

FAQ

Which Minecraft version is ChronoShift for?

Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1 with Fabric Loader 0.19.3 or newer. If your loader is too old, the game won't start and says “requires version 0.19.3 or later” – just run the Fabric Installer again.

Why can't I travel to the past yet?

Points in time are created every 30 minutes of play. After installing, the mod has to run for a while before there is anything to visit.

What happens if I die in the past?

You stay there and wake up at your bed in the past – otherwise at that timeline's world spawn. Your things are where you fell. The only way home is the time machine.

Does ChronoShift work in the Nether and the End?

You can only start time travel from the Overworld, because only the Overworld is recorded. Portals in the past work normally though and take you back into your timeline.

Does the mod change my world?

The present stays untouched – every past is a world of its own. Still, as with any mod: make a backup of your world first.
